1 Year
-Produces vowel sounds and some consonants (p, b, m)
-Babbles
-Says first word (i.e., “mama” or “dada”)
- Points and waves
-Tries to copy sounds others make
-Responds to simple words or phrases (i.e., “Wave bye-bye.”)
18 Months- 2 Years
-Begins to use other consonants (t, d, n, g, k)
- Uses and understands at least 50 words
-Puts two or more words together (i.e., “Mama go.”
-Follows 2-step directions
-Uses words to ask for help
-Uses words such as me, mine, and you
2 years- 3 Years
-Correctly produces the following sounds: p, b, m, d, n, h, t, k, g, w, ng, f, y, and all vowel sounds
-Uses some plural words and -ing verbs
-Asks why and how
-Answers simple “wh” questions (i.e. who, what, where, when, why, which)
-Speech is becoming clearer but may not be understood by those unfamiliar with the child
4 years
-Correctly produces the following sounds: l, j, ch, s, v, sh, z
-Retells stories from a book, video, or experience
-Uses words “a” and “the”
-Uses language that most people can understand
-Is 100% intelligible to family members and familiar individuals
5 Years
-Correctly produces the following sounds: r, zh, th
-Produces grammatically correct sentences
-Follows simple directions and rules to play games
-Understands and uses location words (i.e., beside, behind, under)
-Identifies rhyming words
-Is 100% intelligible to EVERYONE
